*-.-* Oh! Dearest Hujaaj *-.-*
Assalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu.
Al Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil 'Aalameen was Salaatu wasSalaamu 'alaa Ashrafil Anbiyaa'e wal Mursaleen
Say: "My prayer, my worship, my living, my dying- are all for Almighty Allah, the Lord of the worlds."
[Verse 162 Surah Al An'am].
O Dearest Hujaaj! Hajj is the largest annual Convention of Faith wheremillions of Muslims gather in the Holy land, merging as streams of devoteesfrom every corner of the earth become part of the sea of Believers swirlingin spiritual waves around the Ka'bah in Tawaaf. Every individual pilgrimlike a small insignificant drop in that vast ocean; a drop that alwaysyearns to be part of that ocean. An ocean that knows no race, no language,no colour, no gender, nor time.
All praise is due to Almighty Allah for making this unique, internationalgathering of Hajj an inexhaustible source for spiritual rejuvenation and asa perennial re-affirmation of our faith. The performance of prescribedrites, at specified times, at particular places in a recommended manner isaimed at reflecting a wholesome demonstration of Muslim fraternity. It isright here at the very centre of Tauhid and Taqwa where millions of Muslims,men and women, from every part of the world, and belonging to all thevarious races and ethnic and social backgrounds merge to form a singlestream of devotees, responding to the call of their Most Exalted Creator andMaker and the announcement of His Beloved Messenger:
"Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik"
"O Allah! Here I am! Here I am in Thy Presence! Thou art without a partner!Here I am! All Praise is for Thee and from Thee are all Blessings! To TheeAlone belongs Power and Rule! Thou art without a partner."
O Dearest Hujjaj! This is where you enter the holy state of Ihram with thechanting of this most wonderful formula, called the Talbiyah whichconstitutes a declaration as well as a covenant. This is your declarationthat, whatever your conduct in the past might have been, from this moment onyou are prepared to serve your Exalted Creator exclusively and that youdedicate the rest of your earthly life to that service. It is also yourdeclaration that every merit, beauty, virtue, excellence and goodness andall praise worthiness that everything in the world is derived from AlmightyAllah Jallah Wa'ala.
O Dearest Hujjaj! This is your sacred covenant that you make with your Makerthat you are shedding your rebelliousness and sinfulness of the past inwhich you acted in accordance with your wishes and desires and contrary tothe Will of Almighty Allah Rabbul Ala'meen; that from this moment on youpledge to be in the service of your Glorious Creator by liberating yourselffrom the bondage of your self-seeking rebellious animal self.
O Dearest Hujjaj! Hajj acquaints you with the historic, spiritual andphysical environment of Nabee Adam Alayhis Salaam and Hazrat Hawa R.A., ofNabee Ibrahim & Nabee Isma'il Alayhim Salaam and Hazrat Hajirah R.A. and ofour Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam. (Peace be upon all of them).By re-enacting some of the fundamental aspects of the best of our history -Hazrat Hajirah R.A. running in search for water, Nabee Ebrahim AlayhisSalaam's preparedness to sacrifice his willing and obedient son and hispelting of Shaytaan, all these identifies us with the best of our past andthe lessons we need to learn from our great legacy.
O Dearest Hujjaj! It was here in this land that our Beloved Nabee MuhammadIbn Abdullah Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam and his devoted companions - theillustrious Sahaba Ridwanullahi Ta'ala Alayhim Ajma'een bore up with allkinds of bitter hardships for some thirteen years so that the sapling ofIslam may take roots. It was here that after years of adversity, where suchcompanions as Bilal, Ammar, Yasir, Sumayyah, Abdullah ibn Masud (Allah'speace be upon them all) suffered the worst forms of torture by the avowedenemies of Islam.
O Dearest Hujjaj! It was here in the Hijaz that the victory of Badr, thedefeat of Uhud, the hardship of Khandaq and the testing event of Hudaybiyyahtook place. It was here that sincerity and Jihad resulted in victory and thelove of possessions and booty ended in failure. It was here where the MostHoly and Noble Qur'an was revealed verse by verse and the foundations ofIslamic culture and civilization and the pure life of Islam was laid brickby brick.
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you visit the "House of Allah" in Makkah, that citywhich is dearest to Almighty Allah, that city where the greatest of allcreation was born, where he lived, where he received revelation, where hepreached his message, where he was mocked and ostracized; that city which hewas forced to leave and on the occasion of leaving he said;
"I swear by Allah, O Makkah, you are the best of citiesand most loved city on earth by Allah; if I was not madeto leave you I would never have left."
He returned 8 years later with an army of 120,000 followers and forgave hispersecutors. O Hujaaj! When you walk through the streets of Makkah, recallthe torments and hardship that our beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallamhad to go through to deliver Almighty Allah's message. Look at the hills andwonder where he shepherded the sheep of the rich Makkans as a teenager. Looktowards Jabal an-Noor and consider how the he sought solitude in those hillsuntil he received revelation from Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you remove your designer clothes and put on yourIhram, cast of your lousy attitude, your ego, your arrogance, racism andchauvinism. When you perform the Tawaaf feel part of that ocean of faithfulgoing in waves around the Ka'bah. Consider the majesty of Almighty AllahMost Exalted and realize that you too are part of the infinity of zeroesthat is totally dependant on Him. When you pray at the station of NabeeIbrahim A.S. [Maqami Ibrahim] wonder about his status, impact and influenceon world history.
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you run between the hills of Safah and Marwah,realize that you are re-enacting the running of a slave woman - HazratHajirah R.A. whose selfless search for water for her infant son wasconsidered worthy enough by Almighty Allah Rabbul Ala'meen to beincorporated as part of the Hajj. When you drink from the well of Zam-Zamreflect on how this water once served to quench the thirst of a little baby- Nabee Isma'il Alayhis Salaam who was later to become the forefather of ourBeloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you stand on the plains of Arafat, contemplate yourinsignificance amidst the multitude. Realize that you are truly part of aglobal community of faith that has promised to perpetuate the mission of theAmbiya Alayhim Salaam. Accept the fact that race, colour, gender ornationality means absolutely nothing if you are truly a Muslim. Remember tobeg Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for His forgiveness and promise to beforgiving. Realize that you are symbolically close to death in the twopieces of white cloth. [Ihraam]. Understand that the glorious Day of Arafatis a reflection of The Day of Qiyaamah.
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you gather your stones at Muzdalifah, prepare toequip yourself for the challenges and tribulations of the world. When youpelt the "Shaytaan" in Mina make that a permanent declaration of war againstall forms of internal and external evils. When you sacrifice on the day ofEid-ul-Adha slaughter your ego and selfishness as well. When you bury thebones of the sacrifice bury with it with the bad habits, attitudes andbehavior of your old self. Was it not our beloved Nabee Sallallahoo AlayhiWasallam who said;
"Whosoever performs Hajj without improprietyand vulgarity returns as a new born baby.")
O Dearest Hujjaj! When you visit our Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo AlayhiWasallam in Madinah, convey our salutations, our Love and fondest Salams tothe most Beloved of Almighty Allah Azza Wajjal. Inform him of the state ofhis Ummah, of the oppression in Palestine, of the suppression of Muslims inIraq and Lebanon, of the starvation of Muslims in Somalia and Afghanistan,of the poverty in Bangladesh, the massacres in Kosova, Chechnya and Kashmir.With what face are you going to stand at his grave? Reflect on the plightof the children dying,...dying of lack of medication in Baghdad, of massivebombs in Kabul and Lebanon, of hunger in Mogadishu, and of a lack of hope inthe concentration camps of the West Bank, Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. Withwhat conscience will you visit our Beloved Nabee Rahmatul Liel AlameenSallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam?
O Dearest Hujjaj! Ensure that your Hajj will Insha'Allah make you moreconscious of your Most Glorious and Exalted Creator, more conscious ofyourself, of the Ummah, of your duties and your eventual accountability toAlmighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for your existence here on this Doonya.Hajj makes you discover the path of life and its goal as well as the dangersof the way. Hajj reveals the future course of the Muslim Ummah and preparesyou for traversing this path. It helps you to overcome the doubts caused bythe feelings of weakness, humiliation and fears of the enemies of Allah. Allthese are part of the great blessings of Hajj that helps you to return to aglorious past that reminds you on your human honour and greatness, and movesone to recover one's lost human dignity.
O Dearest Hujjaj! During the auspicious days of Hajj, in Makkah, Mina,Muzdalifah, and in Arafat, in Madinah, at Uhud and at Hira this Holy land onwhich our Beloved Rahmatul Liel Ala'meen Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam and hisnoble companions have trod, a land that has witnessed all those sufferings,wanderings, struggles and pains, a land whose every inch bears the touch ofrevelation, Jihad, the Most Glorious Qur'an and the Sunnah. You are in aland where you must meditate deeply about the past episodes, relate yourselfto it and discover your path and direction. In the light of the pastexperience you must be able to envisage your future course and ultimatedestination, and march towards it with trust and reliance on the DivinePower and Might, with hope in Almighty Allah's help, and confidence in yourown capacity, as we are reminded in verse 35 of Surah Muhammad:
"....for Allah is with you, and will never putyou in loss for your (good) deeds."
O Dearest Hujjaj! What does Hajj have to do with how we live? What does ithave to do with any struggle? What does it have to do with the manner inwhich Muslims confront their avowed enemies and their repressive onslaughts?What does Hajj have to do with the imperative to recover the rights anddignity of Muslims and all other deprived and oppressed human beings fromthe oppressors? What does Hajj have to do with the urgent need to think outthe means to relieve Muslims of the moral and material pressures weighingupon them? What does Hajj have to do with how Muslims can emerge as a majorsecond force in the world? What does Hajj have to do with the need forMuslims to rise against puppet governments supported and protected by ourenemies?
O Dearest Hujjaj! Hajj is a means to bring mankind closer to Almighty AllahRabbul Ala'meen the Master and Lord of the Baitullah. Hajj is not merely asequence of ritual movements, acts and words. Hajj is a storehouse of Divineteachings, from which you must draw the content of the outlook of Islam onall aspects of life. The message of Hajj is the imperative to create andbuild a society free of material and moral indignities. Hajj is the stage onwhich are projected all the love-inspiring scenes of life of an individualand society in the search of perfection in this Doonya.
O Dearest Hujjaj! The rituals of Hajj are the vital rites of life. Since theMuslim Ummah must transcend all race and nationhood to become Abrahamic inorder to join the caravan of the Ummah of Nabee Muhammad Ibn AbdullahSallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, Hajj is an exercise for the achievement of amonotheistic pattern of life. Hajj is the exhibition ground and the measureof the spiritual and material capabilities of Muslims. Hajj is like the MostGlorious and Noble Qur'an, wherefrom everyone derives benefit. If thethinkers of the Islamic Ummah familiar with its sufferings, were to fathomfearlessly the depths of this ocean of Divine Teaching, they will bring backpearls of guidance, wisdom and liberty, if they were not afraid to plungeinto the rules (akham) and the social objectives of Hajj. Its fountains ofwisdom will forever suffice to quench their thirst.
O Dearest Hujjaj! Millions of Muslims undertake Hajj every year to placetheir feet on the footmarks of Almighty Allah's Beloved Nabee SallallahooAlayhi Wasallam, of His Friend Nabee Ebrahim Alayhis Salaam and his obedientson Hazrat Ismail Alayhis Salaam and Hazrat Hajira Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anha.Unfortunately no one asks himself or herself who these illustrious slavesand servants of Allah were, what they did, what were their objectives andwhat did they require of us. Having made us His Khulafa on this earth andinvited us to act and to be the real Aqtab around which the world andhistory may say with all of us: "All Praise is Only due to Almighty Allah -the Cherisher and Sustainer of all the Worlds".
O Almighty Allah Jallah Wa'ala! Shower Your inexhaustible Grace and InfiniteMercy on all those fortunate one's who will be journeying to your Holy openCourt, illuminate their hearts with insight, bestow upon them Your guidance;grant them the strength of the highest moral conscience, arm them withMuhabbat, humbleness, understanding and sincerity and a dedicateddetermination to improve the lot of the universal community of Believers andgrant and bless each and everyone of them with a Mabrook Hajj.
O Ya Rabbal Ala'meen! All Praise belongs to You, You alone are the Creatorof creation, the Outspreader of the Provision, the Splitter of the dawns,the Giver of Judgement, the Lord of all the worlds. We Praise You, and seekYour help and forgiveness. We invoke benedictions, Salams and greetings onYour Beloved Nabee Rahmatul Liel Ala'meen Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, hisfamily and the illustrious Sahaba Ridwanullahi Ta'ala Alayhim Ajma'een. Wepray to You in complete humility and humbleness and beg from the innermostrecesses of our hearts: "Please Ya Allah accept our Duahs' and oursupplications for the Hajj quota issues to be resolved in a manner that isbeneficial to our Muslim brothers and sisters in South Africa".
Ameen! Ameen! Thuma Ameen Ya Rabbal Ala'meen
And Almighty Allah knows best.The Truth is from Almighty Allah the errors are all mine.
Baarak Allaahu Feekum wa-sal Allaahu wa-Sallam 'alaaNabiyyinaa Muhammad Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam.
